Glastonbury egg man Wilf Peddle honoured in Parliament

Glastonbury's legendary egg man Wilf Peddle has been honoured in Parliament after local MP Sarah Dyke tabled a motion paying tribute to his life and years of service to the town.
Mr Peddle delivered eggs to households across Glastonbury for more than 50 years, becoming one of the town's most familiar faces. His iconic 1964 Morris Minor van, fondly remembered by generations of residents, is now on display at the Somerset Rural Life Museum.
The motion praises Wilf's long-standing support for local egg producers and shines a light on the wider value of buying local produce to back rural businesses and cut food miles.
Sarah Dyke, Liberal Democrat MP for Glastonbury and Somerton, said: "Wilf Peddle was a true Glastonbury institution. For generations, he provided a vital service to local people with warmth, reliability and real pride in his work."
She added: "He championed local produce long before it became a national conversation, supporting local farmers while ensuring residents had access to fresh, affordable food."
And she said: "It is only right that we recognise Wilf's contribution in Parliament and celebrate the lasting impact he had on our community. His legacy will not be forgotten."
For many in Glastonbury, Wilf was more than just an egg delivery man. He was a well-known local character whose daily rounds became part of the rhythm of life in the town.
Now, his years of service have been formally recognised at Westminster — a tribute to a man many locals will see as part of Glastonbury's story.
