Glastonbury and Street do not really do "quiet week", and this one is no exception.

Between a milestone celebration for the town's dragons and a run of music, markets and exhibitions, there is enough going on to fill a few separate diaries. From Shepton's packed Friday to Glastonbury's dragons and Wells' racing ducks, Somerset is not exactly easing gently into May.

On Thursday 30 April, Sounds Joyful continues at St John's Church Hub in Glastonbury from 10.30am to noon. In Shepton Mallet, Digital Cafe runs from 2pm to 4pm, followed by Spanish conversation weekly meet up from 7pm to 8pm, useful for anyone whose holiday vocabulary currently begins and ends with "dos cervezas". The Legacy in Making Exhibition at Somerset Rural Life Museum also continues in Glastonbury until Sunday 10 May.

On Friday 1 May, Shepton Mallet appears to have looked at the calendar and chosen chaos, but in a wholesome way. Shepton Mallet Friday Market runs from 8.30am to 1pm, Soulfired Sauna Sessions run from 10.30am to 3.30pm, Games Cafe – Shepton Mallet is from 1.30pm to 3pm, Shepton Mallet Lido Opening Day runs from 3pm to 11pm, Shepton Get Ur Skates On is from 5.30pm to 7pm, and Moonlight Swim carries on from 8pm to 11pm. That is not a day out, that is a local endurance event with better refreshments.

Also on Friday 1 May, Wells enters the chat with Pizza Party at Wells Golf Club from 6pm to 8pm, featuring all-you-can-eat pizza, pasta and salad bar. Adults are £15 and children aged 12 and under are £8, with non-members welcome, which is excellent news for anyone whose main hobby is "just one more slice". At Cedars Hall, Maestro Series - Roderick Williams features baritone Roderick Williams and pianist Christopher Glynn in a programme of English songs inspired by Schubert's Winterreise, for those who prefer their Friday evenings with fewer carbs and more cultural weight.

On Saturday 2 May, Shepton's Football is Fun is listed from 10am to 10.45pm, although that end time may be worth checking before packing a flask, sleeping bag and emotional support orange slices. Soulfired Sauna Saturday Sessions run from 10.30am to 3.30pm, because sometimes the best way to follow a busy week is to sit very still and sweat on purpose. In Street, TJ Solo performs at The Unity Club, with members free and guests paying £1 sign-in. Wells also gets VINTAGE REGGAE NIGHT at The Sheppey Inn, bringing the bank holiday bassline the area frankly deserves.

It's also party time at The Loft on Saturday, 2 May, from 9.30pm until late — because apparently the Bank Holiday weekend is not going to start itself. Expect dance floor fillers, late-night tunes and plenty of reasons to abandon the sofa, round up your friends and pretend Sunday consequences do not exist.

On Sunday 3 May, Shepton keeps moving with Runaway Train – trail race and boxty feast from 9am to 2pm and FREE Community YOGA from 10am to 10.45am, offering two very different relationships with hamstrings. The Sunday Market is also listed for Shepton Mallet, focused on community, local produce and artisan goods, while the Early Morning Birdsong Walk takes place at Great Avon Wood from 7am for those rare people who see dawn as an opportunity rather than a personal attack.

The police car from Hot Fuzz will be in Wells Market Place outside The Crown on Sunday, 3 May, giving locals and visitors the chance to stop by, take photos and enjoy a bit of Sandford spirit — for the greater good. The film, shot in Wells, continues to draw fans to the city, with many visiting to spot familiar locations and relive favourite moments from the cult comedy. The visit is part of a series planned by Hot Fuzz Police Car Southwest, with more dates expected in Wells later this year.

Also on Sunday 3 May, Glastonbury Dragons May Fayre and Procession marks the dragons' 10th anniversary, with activity across Tor Leisure Centre, Glastonbury Market Cross, the High Street and the Fairfield on Glastonbury Tor. The timings are approximate and subject to confirmation, with the fayre listed from 10am to 5pm, because even dragons apparently need a flexible schedule. Avalon Thelema : Feast of Cattle also takes place at The Star Room in Glastonbury Experience Courtyard. The Assembly Rooms in Glastonbury are also holding a Beltane Fair, with a carefully selected selection of traders, readers and therapists. Coffee shop, free entry. Pets welcome

On Monday 4 May, Wells keeps the bank holiday nicely odd, which is meant with affection. Trio Paradis Café Concert: Folk Connections takes place at St Thomas' Church at 11am, with the café open from 10.15am. Also on Monday, Annual Godeny Duck Rack takes place at The Sheppey Inn from noon, with races at 1pm, 2pm and 3pm. It is listed as "Duck Rack", but the details are very much a duck race, so unless the ducks have started weight training, we will assume it is a typo and move on like adults.

On Tuesday 5 May, Glastonbury Charter Market runs from 9am to 3pm in St Dunstan's Car Park, the Market Cross and Festival Hall, with fresh seasonal food, handmade goods and gifts. It has apparently been running every Tuesday since 1189, which makes forgetting your reusable bag feel even more embarrassing.

On Wednesday 6 May, Talking Cafe – Shepton Mallet returns to the library from 10am to noon, and Bath College has another open event at the Somer Valley Campus at 4.30pm. Shepton also has Baby Boogie & Rhymetime listed on Hello Shepton, although the time was not included in the details provided, so check before promising a small person the outing of the week. They will remember. They always remember.
