The turkey has been demolished, the Quality Street tin is down to the unpopular ones, and the strange stretch between Christmas Day and New Year has arrived.
If you are wondering what to do with restless children, visiting relatives or your own pent-up energy, there is no shortage of things happening across Glastonbury, Street, Shepton Mallet, Wells and the wider Somerset area.
One of the biggest family attractions returning this Twixmas is Witch's Winter Wonderland at Wookey Hole Caves, running from 27 December 2025 to 4 January 2026. Visitors can explore the show caves, which are illuminated with more than 100,000 lights, creating a winter display inside the underground tunnels.

The wider site remains open throughout the period, with the Wookey Hole Circus debuting its winter production Back to Neverland, featuring circus acts, comedy and a Peter Pan storyline aimed at family audiences. Tickets include access to the 4D cinema, Dinosaur Valley, adventure golf and soft play, with a 20 per cent discount available for advance bookings. Gift vouchers, Tesco vouchers, Blue Peter badges and valid discount codes are accepted, subject to standard terms.
There are also local nights out breaking up the quieter days. On Saturday 27 December, The Loft Lounge in Street hosts its "What Day Is It?" party, with dinner from 6pm and a disco from 9.30pm. On New Year's Eve, Wells residents can head to the Sheppey Soul Shack, where DJ Lath returns for seven hours of soul, funk, ska and Latin boogaloo. Entry is £5, with free prosecco before 10pm.

For those looking to keep costs down, Somerset offers plenty of free and low-cost options. Glastonbury Tor remains a popular winter walk when conditions allow, while the town's mural trail features 48 artworks and can be explored using a free downloadable map.
Nearby, visitors can walk up to Bruton Dovecote for views across the town, visit Hauser & Wirth Somerset gallery free of charge, or take in views from Ham Hill.
Nunney Castle remains open for exploration, while Shapwick Heath, Ham Wall and Westhay Moor offer wildlife spotting opportunities throughout the winter months.
Further afield, families can visit the free Museum of Somerset in Taunton, walk around Frogmary Farm gardens in South Petherton, stroll through Dillington Estate near Ilminster, or explore Otterhead Lakes in the Blackdown Hills.

Other options include the Somerset Space Walk along the Bridgwater and Taunton Canal, Ninesprings Nature Reserve in Yeovil, Chard Reservoir, and the Bath Skyline.
Pantomime season also continues well beyond Christmas Day. Beauty and the Beast runs at Westlands in Yeovil from 12 December 2025 to 4 January 2026, while Cinderella starring Gareth Gates plays at The Playhouse in Weston-super-Mare from 6 to 31 December 2025.
Theatre Royal Bath hosts The Further Adventures of Peter Pan from 11 December 2025 to 11 January 2026, and Snow Mice runs at The Egg in Bath from 20 November 2025 to 11 January 2026. Cinderella is on at the McMillan Theatre in Bridgwater from 12 to 30 December 2025, while Jack and the Beanstalk runs at the Bristol Hippodrome from 6 December 2025 to 4 January 2026, starring Will Young, Charlie Brooks, Richard Cadell and Sooty, and Andy Ford.
Seasonal attractions remain open across Somerset well into January. Icescape Tropicana returns to Weston-super-Mare as the UK's largest undercover winter ice rink, featuring real ice, 45-minute skating sessions, wheelchair accessibility, fairground rides, a Christmas rollercoaster and bungee trampolines.

The Bishop's Palace Christmas Garden Illuminations run on selected dates in Wells from 29 November 2025 to 4 January 2026. Longleat Safari Park's Festival of Light runs from 8 November 2025 to 11 January 2026, with a British Icons theme featuring Wallace and Gromit, Shaun the Sheep and other familiar characters reimagined in lantern form.
In Bath, Bath on Ice runs in Royal Victoria Park until 4 January 2026, alongside Glow in the Dark Mini Golf during the same period. On New Year's Day, Westonzoyland Pumping Station Museum hosts its Steam Up event from 11am to 4pm, with more than 40 stationary steam engines in operation, a narrow gauge railway, café, free parking and family activities.

Outdoor attractions remain open too. Mendip Activity Centre offers Twilight Tobogganing until 4 January 2026, with illuminated runs, campfires, marshmallows and hot chocolate, alongside activities such as frisbee golf, orienteering and ski or snowboard lessons.
Clarks Village in Street hosts its all-weather ice rink from 11 November 2025 to 4 January 2026, with disco sessions, quiet skates, parent and toddler sessions, skating aids and wheelchair accessibility.

Montacute House runs its Montacute House Sings programme from 29 November 2025 to 1 January 2026, featuring recorded Somerset choirs, festive decorations and a wishing tree.
