'It’s not just cleaning, it’s recovery': The Sleek Easy Clean team on the front lines of biohazard cleaning

For many people, cleaning is a chore. For Laura Summers and her team at The Sleek Easy Clean Ltd, it's a calling.
Based in Street and working across the South West, The Sleek Easy Clean Ltd is one of the few local companies offering specialist biohazard cleaning — a growing sector that deals with hoarder homes, trauma scenes, drug dens, sharps disposal, decomposition clean-ups and more.

It's not glamorous, and it's certainly not for the faint-hearted — but for Laura and her team, it's the most rewarding part of the job.
"These are people who haven't let someone in their home for years," Laura said. "They might be ashamed, anxious, or completely overwhelmed. But when we finish, they're able to live again. It's not just cleaning — it's recovery."

Biohazard cleaning can cover everything from trauma and decomposition scenes, hoarder and cluttered properties, drug dens, needle sweeps, fire and soot damage, and specialist mould or infection cleans, to toxic odour removal, waste disposal, crime scenes, squats, police cells, vehicles, and even farm infection control. No two jobs are the same — and each one requires a tailored, compassionate approach.
Each case starts with a conversation — by phone or email — to talk through what the person needs and how best the team can help. That initial conversation is often emotional.

"Sometimes we're the first people they've spoken to about their situation," said Laura. "Sometimes we have to ask difficult questions, but it's never about judgment. We listen, we plan, and we do it together."
The company takes care to preserve the dignity of every client — even in the most complex cases. That might mean salvaging cherished items, replacing essentials like beds and furniture, or simply making sure the home is ready to be lived in straight away.

"We make sure we're not just leaving them with nothing," Laura said. "We want to create a space that feels safe, clean, and liveable again."
The link between cleaning and rebuilding
Many bio cleans require more than just mops and masks. In hoarding or trauma situations, floors, walls and fixtures may need repair or replacement. That's where the company's building team comes in.
Launched in January 2025, the property maintenance side of The Sleek Easy Clean Ltd means clients only need to deal with one company — something that can make all the difference in high-stress situations.

With five tradespeople and a full diary until September, this side of the business is growing fast. From fixing water damage to full refits, the team work hand in hand with the cleaning crew to restore properties from top to bottom.
They already work with housing associations, the NHS, village agents and local authorities across the South West.
And as demand grows, Laura remains hands-on — still working on bio cleans herself, seven days a week.

"I love it," she said. "It's not for everyone, but I wouldn't want to do anything else. We're helping people who need a fresh start, and that's powerful."
