What's On in Street and Glastonbury is brought to you by our sponsors Strode College, Wookey Hole, Glastonbury Abbey, Studio24 in Wells and Melhuish and Saunders.

Street and Glastonbury have something for everyone this week, whether you're exploring career options at Strode College's Open Evening, enjoying live classical music at Strode Theatre, or taking part in the seasonal Imbolc ceremony at the Glastonbury Goddess Temple.

With events catering to students, music lovers, and those looking for a unique cultural experience, it's shaping up to be an interesting start to the year.

Wells Cathedral is getting a celestial makeover as 'Space' by Luxmuralis transforms its medieval interior into a cosmic wonderland. The immersive light and sound installation, running from 28 January to 1 February, will see the cathedral's walls and ceilings turned into a dazzling display of galaxies and nebulae, offering a unique reflection on humanity's place in the universe. If you've ever wanted to see Wells Cathedral look like something out of a sci-fi epic, this is your chance. More details can be found here.

For those who prefer to stay a little more grounded, The Bishop's Palace in Wells is welcoming visitors for Snowdrop Month, running throughout February. Guests can wander through 14 acres of gardens, following a dedicated snowdrop walk along the moat banks and into the Arboretum. If you're looking for a peaceful winter stroll, or just want a few good Instagram shots, this is a must-visit. Details on opening times and tickets are available here.

Over in Castle Cary, things are taking a slightly different turn with an entire day dedicated to potatoes. Somerset Potato Day, held at Caryford Hall on 2 February, will feature over 60 varieties of seed potatoes, heritage seeds, garlic, shallots, and everything else a budding gardener could need. Whether you're a seasoned grower or just really into spuds, admission is free—so why not see what all the fuss is about? More details can be found here.

Meanwhile, Strode College in Street is inviting prospective students and career changers to its Open Evening on 13 February. The event, running from 5:30pm to 8:00pm, offers a chance to explore A Levels, T Levels, apprenticeships, and vocational qualifications, with tutors and staff on hand to offer advice. Whether you're a Year 11 student, a career changer, or someone looking to retrain, this is an opportunity to get a first-hand look at the campus and specialist learning facilities. Those interested are encouraged to register in advance via the college's website. More details can be found here.

For music lovers, Strode Theatre in Street will be hosting The Mid-Somerset Orchestra on 2 February, featuring a programme of Mozart, Michael Haydn, and Louise Farrenc. The concert will include Mozart's Bassoon Concerto, performed by Laurence Perkins, alongside a selection of other classical works. More details can be found here.

Meanwhile, history lovers and those with a sense of community might be interested in the Royal Air Forces Mid-Somerset Branch meeting on 3 February at Wells Golf Club. Featuring a talk titled 'From Russia with Love', the meeting is open to current and former RAF personnel, their families, and supporters, followed by optional lunch and drinks. More details on how to attend can be found here.

For something a little more mystical, Glastonbury's Goddess Temple is hosting an Imbolc Ceremony on 1 February, marking the seasonal shift towards spring. Open to all, the ceremony at The Goddess Hall is an opportunity for reflection, renewal, and connection, offering a truly unique experience in the heart of Glastonbury. More details are available here.

For pop culture fans, Somerset Comic Con & Gaming Festival is returning to Shepton Mallet's Bath & West Showground on 8 February. Expect cosplay, gaming zones, comic book artists, and film props—basically, everything you could want from a comic con, right here in Somerset. Whether you're a gamer, collector, or just want to meet some fellow geeks, this is one not to miss. More details are available here.

With such a variety of events happening across Wells, Glastonbury, Shepton Mallet, and Street, there's no excuse to stay indoors this February. Whether you're marvelling at a cosmic cathedral, celebrating the return of snowdrops, planning your next career move, or just celebrating the humble potato, there's something for everyone.
