Somerset Council's Libraries service is relaunching its Winter Coat Exchange scheme in Glastonbury, offering a lifeline to those in need of warm clothing as temperatures start to drop.

The initiative, which proved highly successful last year, allows residents to donate or collect good-quality coats, helping ease the strain on household budgets.

With children returning to school, the scheme is particularly encouraging donations of children's and teen coats that may no longer fit, but coats for all ages and sizes are welcome.

Councillor Federica Smith-Roberts, Lead Member for Communities, Housing and Culture, said: "Following last year's successful launch of this initiative, I am pleased that we are able to run this again as the colder and wet weather is starting to make itself felt and this can be challenging for many, especially those who can't afford to stay warm."

The Winter Coat Exchange scheme, which distributed 904 coats last winter, is simple:

  • You can take a coat without making a donation.
  • You can donate a coat without taking one.
  • All donations must be of good quality and in a clean condition.

Donations can be made at Glastonbury Library, where the community is encouraged to get involved.
