Sarah Dyke, the Liberal Democrat MP for Glastonbury and Somerton, has tabled a parliamentary motion to honour the late Alan Gloak MBE, a former Mayor and Freeman of Glastonbury. The motion, recently introduced in Parliament, pays tribute to Alan Gloak's extensive contributions to Somerset and recognises the lasting impact of his community spirit.

Alan Gloak, who passed away earlier this year, was a beloved figure in Glastonbury. His legacy was recently commemorated with a memorial plaque unveiled at Glastonbury Town Hall during this year's Glastonbury in Bloom festival—an event he proudly established over 25 years ago. The annual festival, which celebrates the town's natural beauty, is just one of the many cultural initiatives Alan brought to life.

In addition to his contributions to Glastonbury's cultural life, Alan was also dedicated to supporting the people of Somerset through his work with various charities. He founded TS5C, a charity that supports young able-bodied and disabled athletes across the county, which he regarded as one of his proudest achievements.

Alan Gloak was also a trailblazer for the LGBTQ+ community, contributing as a writer for HIM magazine and Q International, where he advocated for freedom of expression and the rights of the LGBTQ+ population.

Commenting on the motion, Sarah Dyke MP said: "I was delighted to be able to table this parliamentary motion to remember the life of Alan Gloak MBE and the contribution he made to his community.

"Alan played a massive role in making Somerset a better place for everyone who calls this part of the world home, and his legacy continues. His caring nature, constant advocacy for change, freedom of expression, and community spirit are qualities that we should all strive to have.

"I am glad that his contributions to society are now formally recognised in this parliamentary motion. His life was a life well lived."

Alan Gloak's impact on Glastonbury and Somerset will be remembered for generations, and the parliamentary motion serves as a fitting tribute to his enduring legacy.
