RNLI branch changes name to better reflect Somerset patch

The RNLI's local lifeboat support branch is changing its name — and it's all about making sure the name fits the patch.
From 1 October, the branch will officially become the RNLI Mendip Branch, covering a broad stretch of Somerset from Nailsea to Shepton Mallet and Glastonbury.
The area already includes Nailsea, Winscombe, Wedmore, Cheddar, Priddy, Wells, Shepton Mallet, Glastonbury and Street — and the RNLI says the new name makes that clear.
While the name is changing, the mission isn't. Volunteers will continue to raise vital funds and promote water safety across the Mendip area, just as before.
Supporters in all parts of the expanded area are encouraged to get involved, as the charity continues its work saving lives at sea — and along rivers, lakes and inland waters.
