Residents of Street and Glastonbury are urged to be extra vigilant following a recent surge in car thefts in the area.

Over the past week, one car was reported stolen in Glastonbury and three in Street.

The thefts predominantly occurred on driveways and roads directly outside the victims' homes, Police are currently investigating these incidents, and have been contacted for comment.

In light of these events, authorities are reminding residents of several key measures to help safeguard their vehicles:

  1. Always Lock Your Vehicle: Ensure your car is locked, even if leaving it unattended for a short time. Double-check windows and sunroofs are securely closed.
  2. Use Secure Parking: When possible, park in well-lit, populated areas. Garages or secure parking facilities are preferable, especially overnight.
  3. Install Security Systems: Consider fitting your vehicle with an alarm, immobiliser, or tracking device. These not only act as a deterrent but can also aid in vehicle recovery.
  4. Hide Valuables: Avoid leaving valuables or personal items in plain sight. Items like bags, phones, and sat-navs can attract thieves.
  5. Be Aware of Keyless Theft: For keyless entry cars, keep keys away from doors and windows. Use signal-blocking pouches to prevent relay attacks.
  6. Use Physical Barriers: Steering wheel locks or wheel clamps can be effective physical deterrents.
  7. Be Observant: Report any suspicious activity around vehicles to the police. Community vigilance can play a significant role in deterring and solving crimes.

Anyone with information about these thefts or who may have noticed suspicious behaviour can contact the police on 101.
