Police are warning Street residents to be on alert after reports of cold callers targeting homes in the area trying to sell cleaning products.
Known as "Nottingham Knockers", the individuals often claim to be ex-offenders on rehabilitation schemes, but police say the products are usually poor quality and residents should not buy from them.
Officers confirmed several incidents have been reported locally in the past month.
These door-to-door sellers are required to carry a valid pedlar's licence issued by the police. However, many do not have one.
"If a caller cannot produce a pedlar's certificate, residents are advised to ask them to leave immediately, not to buy anything, and to call police if they refuse," a police spokesperson said.
Residents are also warned never to give out personal information, including bank details.
To report cold callers:
- Call 101 if you see them in the area
- Call 999 if you believe a crime is in progress
