A fatal motorbike crash in the early hours of Thursday, October 5, has led to the death of a man in his 50s.

The incident occurred on the A361, the road Street with Taunton, at approximately 3:20 am between the junctions of Moor Road and Oliver's Road. The road remained closed for over eight hours to allow for investigations, finally reopening after midday.

Paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene. Avon and Somerset Police have since issued a statement appealing for witnesses. They are keen to speak to anyone who was travelling along the A361 from late Wednesday evening, October 4, until 3:30 am on Thursday morning.

The police statement read: "We are appealing for witnesses after a man sadly died in a single-vehicle collision this morning, Thursday, October 5. Officers attended the A361 between Street and Taunton at around 3.20am following a report of a collision involving a motorcycle. Sadly, a man in his 50s was pronounced dead at the scene. Our thoughts are with his family during this time. They are being offered support by a specially trained family liaison officer."

Officers are also interested in obtaining any dashcam footage from around the time of the incident. Those with information are encouraged to call 101, quoting the reference number 5223242451, or to complete the police's online appeals form.
