Plans to build six homes on lower slopes of Wearyall Hill in Glastonbury are withdrawn

A planning application to build six detached homes on the lower slopes of Wearyall Hill in Glastonbury has been withdrawn.

The application, from Pierre D'Avoine, was due to be discussed at Mendip District Council's planning committee this evening (December 18) but the proposals were withdrawn yesterday.

More than 270 comments had been made on the plans, at 24 The Roman Way, and dozens of letters of objection had been submitted, with particular concern over the houses being only 50 metres from the Holy Thorn.

Planning applications received in the Glastonbury area this week include:

Works to trees in a conservation area T1 - Ash - reduce by 1m; T2 - T4 - Cherry - reduce by 1m; T5 - Birch - reduce by 1m; T6 - Maple - reduce by 1m; T7 - Willow - fell are wanted at Cavendish Lodge, Magdalene Street, Glastonbury.

An application for a certificate of lawful existing development for use of a building as a single dwellinghouse falling within use Class C3 at Rose Cottage, Hembridge Road, East Pennard, has been made by Mr M and Miss A Chorlton and Fellingham.

Works to trees in a conservation area T1 - Birch - cut back from telegraph poles; T2 - Birch - light pruning; T3 - Hawthorn - light pruning; T4 - Birch - reduce a small amount at Mulberry Cottage, High Street, Butleigh, are wanted by Mrs Christine Simpson.

Remove one mature multi-stem Ash tree and replanting at 3 Ashwell Lane, Glastonbury, has been applied for by Miss Anna Brake.

Planning applications in the Glastonbury area that have been decided this week include:

Works to trees in a conservation area T5 and T6 - Cypressus sp - fell and remove, trees are inside boundary line and affect reinstatement of garden and fence line; T7 - Ash - fell as tree is dead and posing a hazard to client and neighbour at 23A Hamlyn Road, Glastonbury, by Mr Charlie Green have been approved.

Proposed single storey side extension at 12 Drum Avenue, Glastonbury, by Mr Cook has been approved.
