Plans for a a dog walking field in Street, and other planning news from in and around Street and Glastonbury
A dog walking field could be created on Street Drove in Street, if plans are given the go-ahead.
The applicants are asking to change the use of a field from agricultural, to a dog walking field in order to create a safe, enclosed space where people can walk their dogs.
The application had previously been refused, with Mendip planners saying "The site lies in the countryside, outside the development limits of any settlement, where development is strictly controlled. The proposal does not represent sustainable development owing to its distance and poor pedestrian accessibility, which would foster growth in the need to travel by private vehicle."
But the applicants have resubmitted the application, arguing that the nearest similar facilities are at least a 17-minute drive away from Street, and a 22-minute drive away from Glastonbury, and that this site would be within walking distance for much of Street, and just a short drive from Glastonbury, therefore reducing the need for travel for local residents.
If the proposal does go ahead, the plan is for the field to be available for dog-owners to book on an hourly basis.
