Locals in Glastonbury were left both surprised and amused earlier this week when a naked couple was spotted walking through the High Street, as part of a tandem bike ride from Gloucester to Cornwall.

The sighting, prompted a flurry of social media reactions and a call to the police, although no offences were identified.

The couple, now revealed as Neil Cox and his friend J Antic, are both committed naturists, embarking on a six-day, 260-mile naked journey. Neil, 36, from Nantwich, and J, 25, from Peckham, have made stops in several towns along the way, including Bristol and the Mendip Hills, before arriving in Glastonbury for a brief exploration.

Their appearance sparked a lively debate online, with opinions divided. Some locals expressed surprise, with one Facebook user stating, "I know anything goes in Glasto but think that 'took the biscuit' today." Another commenter joked, "I just figured it was naked Sunday in Glastonbury – but it appears there is naked Tuesday too."

While a few voiced concerns about children seeing the couple, others were more supportive, with one person saying, "I'd rather have people running around naked than having knives or guns." Another saw it as a chance to discuss body positivity, suggesting it was "a good opportunity to talk about body shaming and loving your body."

Avon and Somerset Police confirmed they received a call about the incident but stated: "No offences were identified from the information provided by the caller." Public nudity in the UK is not illegal unless it involves disorderly or sexual behaviour that causes distress to others.

Neil and J have continued their journey to Cornwall, stating that the response in Glastonbury was "overwhelmingly positive," with many residents and shopkeepers welcoming them warmly. The pair, who have been camping and staying in B&Bs along the way, said their goal is to normalise non-sexual nudity and promote body confidence. Neil, who describes his lifestyle on his website www.nakedneil.co.uk, said on a Facebook post about his visit to Glastonbury, "If we can make people think all bodies are OK, then that's a good thing."
