The 'Morlands and Baily's: Here Forever' project, an exploration into Glastonbury's industrial past, has taken a digital leap with the launch of its dedicated website.

This online portal, found at https://www.redbrickbuilding.co.uk/heritage, offers an extensive collection of materials and stories gathered during the project, providing an in-depth look into the lives and times at Morlands and Baily's, two significant local companies.

The initiative, which was showcased through exhibitions at the Red Brick Building in June and September, received feedback about the abundance of material to absorb.

Addressing this, the website now serves as a convenient platform for visitors to explore these rich narratives at their leisure, enabling a deeper engagement with the town's history.

Moreover, the website features interviews that capture the essence of the people involved in the project, adding a personal touch to the historical accounts.

It's an invaluable resource for those unable to visit the exhibitions or for sharing with friends and family outside Somerset, offering a window into Glastonbury's industrial heritage.

The project team continues to seek contributions from individuals with memories of working at Morlands or Baily's. Plans are underway to expand the project in 2024, subject to funding, and the team welcomes participation from the community. Interested individuals can get in touch through [email protected] or visit the Red Brick Building.

This endeavour has been made possible thanks to a generous grant from Historic England and the invaluable contributions from those who shared their memories and artefacts. The project has shed light on the considerable influence these businesses had on the local community and economy.

Looking forward, the Red Brick Building plans to host more heritage events, with updates to be provided on the website. For those keen to delve further into Glastonbury's industrial past, free Industrial Heritage trail leaflets are available at the Red Brick Building Reception and the tourist information centre.
