One of the three Millfield School students seriously injured in an incident involving overhead power cables has suffered life-changing injuries, it has emerged.

The pupil remains in a critical condition after sustaining severe electrical burns on Saturday, May 3. The incident took place on school grounds during the Bank Holiday weekend, when emergency services were called to the independent school in Street at around 7.30pm.

His injuries include extensive internal damage and severe burns that have already required multiple surgeries, including the partial loss of some extremities, with further surgical procedures are expected in the coming days.

He is likely to remain in hospital for at least two months as part of a long and complex recovery and his condition remains critical but stable.

A fundraising campaign launched to support his ongoing care and rehabilitation has already raised £44,000 towards a £1 million target, with over 370 donations received since the incident.

Funds will go towards medical expenses, accommodation and travel for family, and long-term rehabilitation needs.

A spokesperson for Millfield said: "The entire Millfield community's thoughts and best wishes are with them all. We ask for everyone to respect their privacy and avoid speculation."

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is leading an investigation into the incident, in partnership with Avon and Somerset Police.

The school has confirmed it is working closely with the authorities and there is no wider risk to other students or staff.

Emergency services including air and land ambulances, a hazardous area response team, fire crews and police all attended the scene. The other two students injured are also being treated in hospital.
