Millfield art scholar to auction paintings for bursary fund
Millfield School art scholar Makenzy Beard is donating her artwork to an auction to raise money for the school's bursary fund, which supported her education.
The auction will take place at the Atkinson Gallery on Friday, 28 February, as part of Millfield's 90th anniversary celebrations. Former Christie's auctioneer and Millfield alumnus Guy Bennett will lead the event, flying in from the USA to support the cause.
Makenzy, who discovered her artistic talent during the pandemic, has sold paintings for over £20,000 and exhibited at the Royal Academy of Arts Summer Show. She is contributing two original pieces and three prints to the auction, with proceeds supporting Millfield's Discover Brilliance Campaign for bursaries.
"I'm excited to give back by donating my work to help others access the same opportunities I've had at Millfield," said Makenzy.
The auction will also feature alumni contributions, including photographer Finn Taylor, known for celebrity portraits and collaborations with brands like Nike.
Headmaster Gavin Horgan praised Makenzy's generosity, calling her "a highly talented individual" and "an amazing example" of Millfield's commitment to diversity.
The auction is open to the public, with more details coming soon on the school's social media.
