Glastonbury police set out winter plan for town centre hotspots
By Laura Linham 5th Nov 2026
Avon and Somerset Police have set out plans for extra patrols and partnership work in Glastonbury town centre, naming several areas where anti-social behaviour has been reported.
The updated neighbourhood policing priority, agreed on 1 November, identifies the High Street, Market Place, St Dunstan's Car Park and the Abbey gateway as hotspots. Police also refer to reports of drug-related issues around St John's Church.
Officers say they will increase high-visibility foot patrols, focusing on after-school hours, early evenings, early mornings and weekends. The update says the work is intended to address concerns as winter events and Christmas shopping increase footfall in the town.
Police also plan to review hotspot information weekly, drawing on reports from local businesses, CCTV operators and town council partners.
The neighbourhood team says it will work with the YMCA and outreach organisations on joint patrols, with a focus on people sleeping rough or spending time on the streets, vulnerable people at risk of exploitation, and those who may need support with substance misuse or homelessness.
Where necessary and proportionate, officers may use Community Protection Warnings or Notices and dispersal powers.
The update follows earlier police commitments to increase patrols in Glastonbury. It gives more detail on the locations and partnership work that will shape the team's approach over the coming winter.
