Melhuish and Saunders begin work on exciting new project

By Emma Dance   23rd Jun 2022

Glastonbury building contractors Melhuish and Saunders have just begun work on an exciting new project.

The ground-breaking ceremony for the project for Date Palm Developments in Baltonsborough took place earlier this week, on June 20.

Date Palm Developments is a leading producer in date palms from tissue culture and supplies to over 25 countries across the date growing world. Over the last 30 years the company has developed techniques to improve crops and sustain communities abroad.

The new project comprises of a new greenhouse, laboratory and office facilities. Managing Director, Dr Avril Brackpool, said, ''This building is the final stage of Date Palm Developments new greenhouse expansion project. It will provide a small, specifically designed Laboratory and Office facility to support the import and handling of Date Palm source stocks to enable expanded plant production and export activity. We are very happy to have secured the services of such a reputable local building contractor as Melhuish and Saunders Ltd. to carry out this important strategic development for our business.''

Darryl Mitchard, Co-owner and Managing Director of Melhuish and Saunders, said, "It's great to have secured another local business project based on our reputation of delivering high quality builds on time and on budget. Working with Date Palm Developments to enable their business to grow is not only important to them, but to us as the contractor, we want to ensure all our clients have a great experience and the goal is handing over a project that brings their dreams to reality. Date Palm Developments is a market leader in Date production supplying over 25 countries and we are privileged to be part of this project."

The project is due to be completed in spring 2023.
