A mass healing event will be held at the top of Glastonbury Tor this afternoon (January 5) in a bid to help those affected by the bushfires in Australia.

The organisers have asked people to gather at the top of the Tor at about 4pm or just before sunset and pray, chant, sing, ask for and encourage rainfall in the areas of Australia that are being ravaged by fire causing mass death and destruction.

A spokesperson said: "It doesn't matter what your beliefs are or how you do this but let's get as many as we can up there to do our thing together or separately, even if only through quiet thought, meditation, ceremony, incantation, anything to get the elements responding to send rain to all the areas affected and threatened in Australia right now.

"Let's take candles, water, incense, drums, guitars, music, voice, prayer, thought, ourselves and anything we can. We can do this."

Some people are gathering at the Market Cross in Glastonbury from noon and then will make their way up to the Tor for 4pm.

Donations can also be made to the Salvation Army's Disaster Appeal, which is sending teams to help in the area.
