Local fundraiser walking for wildlife

A local man is taking on a special walking challenge to raise money for a Somerset wildlife charity.

David Plant, Fundraising Manager at Secret World Wildlife Rescue, is aiming to visit all three of the charity's shops in one day. Starting at 8am in at the charity's store on Cheapside, Langport, David will head north-west through the Somerset countryside towards Glastonbury. He'll be stopping off at Secret World's "Secret Place" shop, just off Glastonbury High Street, around lunchtime.

From there, it's a walk west through the Moors towards Secret World's centre near Highbridge. After a short break and some encouragement from the team, he'll continue the last leg of the walk, finishing at the charity's shop on Burnham-on-Sea High Street around 7:30pm. That's almost 29 miles in total.

David had this to say about the challenge:

"Anyone who knows me will know that I hate exercise and have never trained for anything in my life. I don't mind a bit of walking, but this will be the longest distance I've walked by a long stretch. It's going to be a big challenge and I'm sure I'll be feeling sore and tired, but the discomfort will be nothing compared with what so many wild animals have to endure.

I'll be sharing updates on my JustGiving page, and hopefully details of a mini event at Glastonbury to coincide with my break there. I also plan to have a live tracker via Strava on the day; I'll share that on JustGiving and SWWR's social media on the day. If you see me on my travels, come and say hello and I'll give you a sticker!

I'd really appreciate it if you're able to spare a few pounds and help me hit my target. I've gone for a modest target of £500 as I know things are tough for everyone this year. As well helping give sick, injured, and orphaned wildlife a second chance at life, you'll be fuelling my tired legs and brain for their 60,000+ steps on the day."

You can sponsor David via his JustGiving page, or by donating in any of Secret World's charity shops, just let the team know it's for David's walk. He'll also be collecting donations during his walk.
