A life-saving defibrillator was installed at Glastonbury Tor this weekend, following a delay due to vandalism.

Heartstart Somerset had hoped to install the defibrillator at the end of last year, but the initial equipment was vandalised, believed to be by people thinking it was going to be a 5G mast.

The organisation has been fundraising since then to raise the £2,500 needed to undertake the repairs, and was finally able to successfully install all the equipment this weekend.

Project manager Lawrence Rayment is now asking members of the public to inform the police if they see anyone vandalising the life-saving equipment in the future.

He told Glastonbury Nub News: "Due to past vandalism, we appeal to members of the public to take mobile phone pictures of anyone they see vandalising it and forward them to the police for investigation.

"We want members of the public, some who visit the Tor daily, to take ownership of the defib cabinet, as on average two people each year collapse and pass away trying to negotiate the steep slope.

"In many cases, they have pre-existing health conditions but their lives may have been saved if a defib had been readily available in the past."
