Heartstart Somerset have said there will now be a delay in installing a life-saving defibrillator at Glastonbury Tor after the initial equipment at the site was damaged.

It is thought by the organisation that the equipment was damaged by someone who was anti-5G, thinking that it was going to be a mast. The repairs will cost around £2,500.

Some £900 has been raised already for the repairs, but Heartstart Somerset are hoping more people will contribute to make the reality of the defibrillator being in place and working, happen sooner.

Project manager Lawrence Rayment told Glastonbury Nub News: "During a recent site visit, we noticed that items has been damaged and stolen.

"A local lady who walks up the Tor every day told me that some local people thought it was going to something like a 5G mast, and so had taken 'affirmative action'.

"The cost to our project for their endeavours is about £2,500 of which we have received £900 in donations.

"Hopefully we can reach our target soon as I was hoping to have it in situ by Christmas, this being the time when members of the public wish to walk off a large dinner, etc, and are primed for a heart attack walking up a steep hill.

"However, my main personal concern is the future. It is a local asset to save local lives, and whatever your spiritual beliefs, the sighting of this asset does not interfere with the mystic power of the Tor.

"The location has been chosen carefully by the National Trust. We want local people to care for their asset and if they can afford it, to donate money in support."

Heartstart Somerset has put a notice up on the equipment to inform local people what is being installed there.

It says: "This installation is not a 5G mast, a machine to charge visitors to the Tor or a machine to charge for car parking.

"It was to have been a site for a public access defibrillator. Every year there are some people, who for various underlying health conditions suffer a heart attack or cardiac arrest while trying to go up or down this steep hill.

"As a result, we raised local community funds in order to install a public access defibrillator that could save lives.

"Unfortunately, some people have taken it upon themselves to remove key components in the possible belief they were destroying or preventing something other than a defib cabinet.

"There will now be a delay in completing this project until we can raise further funds. If you see someone attacking or vandalising this installation, either now or in the future, please take photos on your phone and call us with details.
