The Street Neighbourhood Watch Association (SNWA) is actively seeking community members to join their ranks in a united effort to bolster safety and wellbeing in Street.

Since its inception in 2000, SNWA, as a part of the national Neighbourhood Watch Association, has been instrumental in creating a safer environment by collaborating closely with the local police and parish council.

One of SNWA's visible successes is the implementation of 'No Cold Calling' signs throughout Street, effectively declaring it a no cold calling village. This initiative, supported by Avon and Somerset Police and Street Parish Council, aims to protect residents from unsolicited visits and has been extended with additional signage at all entry points to the village. For members, window stickers are also available to further discourage unwelcome callers.

Despite Street's relatively lower crime rate compared to other areas in Somerset, residents still face challenges such as burglary, vandalism, and anti-social behaviour, along with the growing concern of financial scams. SNWA combats these issues by providing timely information through their Messaging Service and an engaged Facebook group, offering advice and alerts to residents about potential threats to their security.

More than just a crime prevention organisation, SNWA fosters a strong sense of community spirit. The association provides local emergency contact details and personal safety advice, alongside access to safety products like personal alarms, to ensure residents feel secure and supported.

To enhance community engagement and communication, SNWA is setting up a voluntary, secure database of member household details. The association is structured with a Co-ordinator for each road in Street, serving as a vital link for members. The commitment is minimal, with an annual membership fee of just £1 per household, contributing towards organizational costs.

Street residents are warmly invited to join SNWA, either as a Co-ordinator or a member. By participating, they contribute not only to their personal safety but also to the broader wellbeing of the community. For more information on joining and making a difference in Street, contact John Dodson at 01458 446535 or via email at [email protected]. This is an opportunity for residents of Street to band together, watch out for one another, and maintain the safety and harmony of their community.
