Whether you're properly on the prowl for a new job or just idly doomscrolling for something better than your current gig (or manager), here's a fresh crop of local listings that might just tempt you. We've rounded up everything from care work and cooking to curtain fitting and quarry wrangling — all within shouting distance of your front door.

Care with a cuppa in Street & Glastonbury

If you can make a decent brew under pressure and don't mind the occasional awkward conversation about bunions, this Community Care Worker role might suit. You'll work mornings, evenings, or weekends (or all of them if you're feeling brave), helping people live safely and comfortably at home. It's genuinely meaningful stuff with travel paid at your hourly rate, and a decent wedge too — up to £13.50/hour on weekends.

Cooking up comfort in Castle Cary

Somerset Care is after a Cook for Millbrook Gardens care home. It's four long shifts a week (8am–7pm), but with weekends paying a bit more (£14.55/hr) and plenty of perks. You'll need catering experience, ideally in care, and a knack for feeding fussy eaters with compassion and a clean kitchen.

Abbey boss wanted: spiritual gravitas optional

Glastonbury Abbey is on the hunt for a new Director, following the retirement of Janet Bell MBE (big shoes, sensible flats). It's a proper top-table role: strategy, conservation, visitor experience, all the grand bits. Salary's in the £66k–£70k ballpark, and you'll need the sort of CV that has 'visionary leadership' in bold.

Fit blinds, dodge traffic, work when you fancy

Hillarys are recruiting Installers in Glastonbury and Wells. It's one of those 'be your own boss' deals with the usual caveats, but if you're handy with a drill and don't mind climbing ladders in people's conservatories, it could be a tidy little earner (£50k quoted, pinch of salt recommended).

HGV tinkerers, Shepton needs you

Gregory Distribution are after an HGV Technician to keep their lorries legal and rolling. It's a two-week rotation shift pattern, and presumably involves a fair bit of grease, swearing, and occasional wizardry with a spanner. Salary's around £40k.

Night owl plant fitters, assemble

Holcim wants a Nights Mobile Plant Fitter in Shepton Mallet. No pay listed, but it's permanent, and you'll be roaming around keeping construction kit in line under the stars. Might suit someone who prefers machines to people and doesn't mind a late bedtime.

And if you're more 'manage the rocks' than fix the machines...

There's also a Quarry Manager (Nights) role going with Holcim. Again, no salary listed, but you'll be running the nocturnal side of things in the quarry. Likely to involve headtorches, clipboards, and a lot of Health & Safety forms.

Marketing bods, here's one with a desk

An FMCG firm in Wells is after an Assistant Brand Manager. It's £30k a year and sounds like a step up for a Marketing Exec or similar who's already fluent in meetings, campaigns, and politely wrestling with brand guidelines.

Plenty more where that came from over on the Nub News jobs board. Give it a browse, even if you're just killing time before the kettle boils.
