New data unveils that Glastonbury's BA6 postcode is significantly less likely to experience burglaries than some of the neighbouring towns.

The information comes from an analysis of over 7 million home insurance quotes from MoneySuperMarket Home Insurance customers, looking at the UK postcodes with the highest and lowest rates of burglary claims since 2020.

The BA7 postcode ranked 80th out of 2,377 UK postcode areas for burglary claims, putting it in the top 3% of areas most likely to experience a burglary.

In contrast, Glastonbury's BA6 postcode ranks 2,101st, placing it among the safer areas. Households in the BA7 area have a 3.166% chance of being burgled, whereas the risk is only 0.274% for Glastonbury residents.

A table of local postcodes reveals the discrepancy further. Out of 30 neighbouring postcode areas including parts of Bristol and other Somerset towns like Shepton Mallet and Yeovil, Castle Cary (BA7) tops the list as the most likely to experience a burglary. Glastonbury (BA6) ranks 39th out of 45, making it one of the least likely areas to file a burglary insurance claim.

For national context, Birmingham's B94 postcode has the highest rate of burglary insurance claims at 57.83 per 1,000 homes. Meanwhile, Cambridgeshire's PE15 postcode has the lowest, with just 0.28 claims for every thousand homes.

David McDermottroe, a home insurance expert at MoneySuperMarket, noted, "While it's not a surprise to see the list of burglary hotspots dominated by large cities, it is interesting to learn that a large proportion of people in rural areas aren't protecting their homes with a burglar alarm."
