Businesses in Glastonbury have a golden opportunity to get ahead with a new Somerset Supply Chain website.

The initiative aims to connect local businesses with a plethora of work contracts that are part of the £23.6 million Glastonbury Town Deal programme.

Glastonbury was selected as one of the 101 towns to benefit from the government's Towns Fund scheme, which forms a part of the wider Levelling Up agenda.

In a bid to facilitate this, the Somerset Chamber of Commerce has joined forces with the Glastonbury Town Deal team and Somerset Council. Their aim is to utilise the Somerset Supply Chain website as a central hub for businesses keen to bid for contracts.

"This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity for local businesses," said Emma Rawlings, Chief Executive of Somerset Chamber of Commerce. "By registering on the new Somerset Supply Chain website, businesses can ensure their capabilities are matched to upcoming tenders, making it easier to win work and for contractors to find skilled firms."

The funding will be allocated to 11 approved projects that are at various stages of planning and design. These projects range from the regeneration of Baily's Buildings and the establishment of a Glastonbury Enterprise and Innovation Hub at Beckery House, to the creation of new educational visitor destinations and health and wellbeing centres.

The Robert Richards Initiative also promises to amalgamate education and training, green infrastructure, and wellbeing through a dedicated website and targeted investments.

Dr Lynne Sedgmore, Chair of the Glastonbury Town Deal Board, added: "We're starting to see some real, tangible progress with the Glastonbury Town Deal projects. We would encourage businesses to register on the Somerset Supply Chain website to find out how to get involved as a local supplier. These are very exciting times for Glastonbury."
