Hear ye! Hear ye! Glastonbury is on the hunt for a new Town Crier

Glastonbury is looking for its next Town Crier — and you don't need experience, just a loud voice, a love of tradition, and a passion for the local community.
The honorary role of Town Crier has a long and proud history in Glastonbury, and the Town Council is now inviting applications from anyone interested in stepping into the role. The successful candidate will become the official voice of the town, delivering public announcements at events, festivals, and civic ceremonies.
As well as a clear voice and charismatic presence, the crier will be expected to take part in ceremonial duties, promote local events, and engage with both residents and visitors — all while dressed in full traditional livery, complete with bell and scroll.
The post is voluntary, and although no experience is necessary, the Town Council is looking for someone with strong public speaking skills, knowledge of Glastonbury's history, and the physical stamina to walk, process and project their voice — come rain or shine.
Applicants should be comfortable delivering the classic opening cry of "Oyez, Oyez, Oyez!" and ending with "God save the King; May Glastonbury flourish!"
The role also includes representing Glastonbury at external events and working closely with the Town Council, event organisers, and community groups to help share public messages in a fun and engaging way.
The deadline to apply is 12 noon on Monday 7 April 2025. Interviews will be held at Glastonbury Town Hall on Monday 14 April.
To apply, send a CV and covering letter to The Mayor of Glastonbury, Glastonbury Town Hall, Magdalene Street, Glastonbury, BA6 9EL
