Glastonbury Abbey's Medieval Fayre is returning, bigger and better than ever.

Over the weekend of April 23 and 24, Glastonbury Abbey will be transformed into a medieval village as the breath-taking ruins form the background for markets, living history displays and medieval demonstrations.

The abbey's annual Medieval Fayre is returning this year with more than 200 re-enactors, and visitors can get hands-on by trying out archery and axe-throwing among a wide range of other activities on offer.

When visitors are not getting stuck into medieval village life, they will have the chance to watch fire eating, jousting and Viking battles, and enjoy medieval music as well as food and ale.

Tolly Snell, Glastonbury Abbey's Deputy Commercial Activity Manager, said: "Our Medieval Fayre has bounced back from the pandemic bigger than ever. There is going to be so much to see and do over that April weekend. We cannot wait to bring this exciting event back to the abbey's historic grounds in what has now become such a popular date in Glastonbury's calendar.

"The event isn't just about the drama and battles, we also have a fascinating market and a host of activities and demonstrations to keep all the family entertained. We have organised the weekend so that day visitors get the best out of their visit, but if you'd like to enjoy it at a more leisurely pace then a weekend ticket will give you the opportunity to explore more of what Glastonbury has to offer."

The fayre opens between 10am and 5pm on both days across the entire abbey grounds. Tickets start from just £7 for a day ticket and £10.50 for a weekend ticket. The event also offers a free carer's ticket, and children under five years old are free but must be accompanied by an adult. More information and updates on the fayre can be found on the Glastonbury Abbey website, where you can also buy tickets.

Proceeds from this fundraising event go towards Glastonbury Abbey's charitable activities.

Glastonbury Abbey's Member Plus supporters get free entry to the fayre alongside a range of other events throughout the year, as well as free, all-year-round access, two complimentary day visits for family members to the full 36-acre grounds and up to 15 per cent discount in the abbey shop and cafe. To become a Member Plus, which costs around £1 per week, visit the abbey's website. You can also buy tickets or a membership when you visit the abbey.
