Women in Glastonbury are invited to participate in a unique public safety programme by Avon and Somerset Police.
Known as the 'Walk and Talk' initiative, this innovative scheme aims to improve community safety by pairing female residents with female police officers or PCSOs to explore areas where they may feel particularly vulnerable.
A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police stated, "We are committed to understanding the specific needs and concerns of our community. The insights from the women of Glastonbury will be invaluable in shaping how we protect and serve this area. We're eager to work together to create a safer environment for all."
Participants aged 18 or over are encouraged to contribute their perspectives by emailing [email protected]. Whether it's advocating for increased street lighting or more regular patrols, the programme seeks to directly address community concerns.
One of the initiative's recent participants, Charlotte, had a positive experience walking around Glastonbury town centre with PCSO Melanie Rowlands.
"Mel was so friendly and listened to all my concerns. She was also able to explain what the police are doing to improve things in the area, which was so helpful. This is a fantastic idea," said Charlotte.
The initiative is not exclusive to Glastonbury; it's a pilot programme open to all women over 18 who live or work in Somerset. For those interested in joining, further information can be found on the Avon and Somerset Police website: Walk and Talk.
