David Greenway has announced his retirement as Glastonbury's Town Crier after more than a decade in the role.

Reflecting on his time serving the town, David said he had made "countless good friends" during his 11 years as Town Crier and described the experience as both a pleasure and an honour.

In a Facebook post announcing his retirement, he wrote: "After careful thought, I have decided to retire from the post of Town Crier of Glastonbury. I have to say, I've thoroughly enjoyed my experiences in this role over the last eleven years and have made countless good friends. It has been a great pleasure and honour to serve Glastonbury and I now feel it is time to step aside to allow another to enjoy the fun!"

David's presence has become a familiar and much-loved part of local events, where his traditional bell and booming voice have been a staple of civic occasions and celebrations.

It is not yet known when a successor will be appointed, but his departure marks the end of an era for Glastonbury.
