A new community art project, As Old as the Hills, is set to debut at the Zig Zag building in Glastonbury from 21 September to 6 October 2024 as part of Somerset Art Weeks Festival. Curated by artists Fiona Campbell and Jan Ollis, the exhibition will explore the rich heritage and environment of the Mendip Hills and Somerset Levels through a wide range of contemporary art.

The project brings together ten acclaimed artists from around the UK, including four members of the Royal Society of Sculptors, who will present large-scale installations, textiles, film, performance, and more. The exhibition will respond to the challenges of climate change, highlighting local issues such as flooding and water pollution while celebrating the unique landscape of the region.

Workshops held throughout the summer have engaged the local community, with their creations set to be displayed as part of the exhibition. The iconic Zig Zag building, formerly home to the Morlands leather factory, provides a distinctive setting for the event, with its Bauhaus architecture and unconventional exhibition space.

The exhibition launch will take place on 21 September, with special events planned throughout the day. Admission is free, and the exhibition is open daily from 10am to 5pm.

For more details and to book workshops, visit the project's Instagram page.
