Drivers in Glastonbury who park on pavements are being warned — you could now face a fine or formal warning as part of a new police crackdown.

Police say they will monitor known trouble spots and issue tickets or 'education' to offending drivers.

A spokesperson said: "We've had a rise in reports of cars blocking pavements, particularly along Wells Road, and it's putting pedestrians at risk.

"Our priority is making sure people can move around the town safely, including those with pushchairs, mobility aids or visual impairments. Officers will be monitoring the area and speaking to drivers, and where necessary issuing tickets to anyone obstructing the footpath."

Warning to motorists

The clampdown follows repeated reports from residents, including parents with prams and wheelchair users, who say they've had to step into traffic due to blocked pavements.

The issue forms part of Glastonbury's neighbourhood policing priorities and will remain under review.

It also comes as Somerset Council looks to update parking and waiting restrictions across several towns including Glastonbury, Street and Wells — aimed at improving road safety and traffic flow.
