Glastonbury schoolgirl’s litter pick fundraiser for cancer research

By Laura Linham 11th Mar 2025

A nine-year-old girl from Glastonbury has launched a fundraising campaign to support Cancer Research UK, inspired by her close friend who is battling cancer.

Sophia felt helpless watching her aunty go through treatment and wanted to do something to make a difference.

Determined to help, she independently came up with the idea of a sponsored litter pick, combining her passion for the environment with raising money for vital cancer research.

Her parents said they were incredibly proud of her initiative, saying: "Sophia wants to raise as much money as she can to help fund research into cures. She also loves the environment, so this is the perfect way for her to make a difference."

Sophia's fundraiser will support Cancer Research UK, which has played a crucial role in doubling cancer survival rates over the past 50 years.

However, the charity says more research is needed to improve treatments and help more people live longer, healthier lives.

Anyone who would like to support Sophia's efforts can donate via her fundraising page: Donate here

Her campaign not only raises money for a worthy cause but also helps clean up the local environment—proving that small actions can have a big impact.
