Glastonbury police warn drivers over pavements
By Laura Linham 15th Jul 2026
Police have warned drivers not to use footpaths and pavements after recent reports of vehicles being driven where pedestrians should be safe. The neighbourhood team said the behaviour is dangerous and illegal, with enforcement action already being taken.
PC Higgins has been issuing tickets and advising Glastonbury following reports of vehicles being driven on footpaths and pavements. Police said anyone found committing the offence could face a fixed penalty notice, fines and penalty points on their driving licence.
The warning cites Section 34 of the Road Traffic Act 1988 and Section 72 of the Highway Act 1835. Police said footpaths and pavements are there to protect pedestrians, including children, elderly people and those with mobility issues.
Drivers are being told to use only designated roads and lawful access points. Police also said motorists should be patient if access is blocked, rather than trying to bypass an obstruction by driving on pavements.
The neighbourhood team said patrols would continue and appropriate enforcement action would be taken where necessary. Residents who witness dangerous driving or have concerns are being asked to report it to police.
