Glastonbury Market Cross fenced off pending repairs

Barriers have been put up around Glastonbury's Market Cross after concerns were raised about the risk of falling stone.
The structure, which stands in the High Street at the junction of the town's four main streets, has been fenced off in one of the busiest and most visible locations in the town centre.
A warning sign on the barriers states there is a danger of falling stone and urges people not to cross into the restricted area.
Glastonbury Town Clerk Conor Ogilvie-Davidson said the action was taken after issues were identified at the top of the monument.
He said: "We were made aware of some insecure decorative elements to the top of the Market Cross so have fenced it off for safety reasons.
"We're currently liaising with stonemasons about having this made safe but I do not have a timeline right at the moment."
The Market Cross is Grade II-listed and forms part of an important historic group within the Market Place and High Street.
The current structure dates from 1846 and was designed by architect Benjamin Ferrey. It replaced an earlier market cross which had stood on the site for centuries before being removed in 1808.
