A rough sleeper from Glastonbury has bestowed upon the town the title of "the best place to be homeless," in a YouTube video looking at life in the town.

While Glastonbury is best-known for a music festival held a few miles away in Pilton, year round, it's home to a floating population of people drawn to the Somerset town's mystical reputation.

In a YouTube video, Wendall - who is 'exploring the real Britain' comes to the town to chat with residents and find out what it's like in the 'UK's Weirdest Town'.

Bugsy, who lives on the streets of this Somerset town, spoke to the Podcaster, highlighting the unexpected support he's found. "It's better than most places," he explained to podcaster Wendall, praising the local police and fire brigade for their assistance. "This town is lovely. On Christmas day you got Christmas dinner – a couple of hundred people go to that. It brings all the different parts of the community together… nobody judges you.

"They're more understanding, they'll give you something to eat. I'm sleeping in an abandoned garage… the police turned up and said 'you're fine here, we haven't had any complaints or anything we just heard that someone was staying here'. I came back that night and there was loads of brand new duvets in plastic bags. The police asked me the next day 'did you get all our stuff for you?' The fire brigade went there as well and they put up a smoke alarm."

Bugsy's sentiment is echoed by another individual experiencing homelessness, who described Glastonbury as an "outdoor asylum," noting even the town's hooligans carry a polite demeanour uncommon in other places. "They smack you in the face and then apologise for that mate. I like it here," he adds, "it suits my weird sense of responsibility."

However, not everyone is interviewed by the town's spiritual veneer.

The video opens with Wendall arguing with someone accusing him of being a cypher and an undercover police officer, while a local busker tells Wendall: "There's a lot of lost souls here. You just have to walk around by the White Spring and the Tor, you'll see so many disillusioned people that have been harmed by society and just take it out on people. There's a darkness here. Everybody says there's so much light but really it's just very dark."
