Firefighters from Glastonbury helped rescue a horse from a water-filled ditch in Burtle this morning (August 21).

Just after 8.15am, a fire engine from Glastonbury along with their heavy rescue appliance and specialist rescue teams from Bridgwater were mobilised to a report of a horse stuck in a rhyne in Burtle Road.

The owner was in attendance with the horse and had called a vet to come and oversee the horse's wellbeing.

With the help from a tractor, the crews freed the horse using special rescue equipment.
