The Glastonbury Dragons May Fayre and Procession is set to return on Sunday 4 May 2025, bringing an expanded celebration across two locations for the first time.

This year's May Fayre will be held at Tor Leisure Field, next to Tor Leisure Centre, featuring stalls, entertainment, and activities throughout the day. Meanwhile, the Glastonbury Red and White Dragons will lead a procession up Glastonbury High Street, culminating in a ceremony at the Fairfield on Glastonbury Tor, where they will gather in the blossom circle for a ritual marking the seasonal shift from winter to summer.

The symbolism of the Glastonbury Dragons

The Red and White Dragons represent the interplay of earth energies at the turning of the seasons. The White Dragon, symbolic of the colder months, is triumphant as winter begins, but as the wheel of the year turns toward summer, the Red Dragon rises in strength. Their presence and procession through the town reflect the natural cycle of renewal, transition, and balance—a tradition deeply rooted in Glastonbury's spiritual and cultural heritage.

A celebration of the season

The event is free and open to all, with organisers inviting attendees to dress in red or white to honour the dragons, or in outfits celebrating the spirit of the season.

The Pentacle Drummers will be among the special guests performing, bringing their powerful rhythms to accompany the celebrations. More details, including entertainment schedules and May Fayre stall applications, will be released soon.

The Glastonbury Dragons events are entirely run by volunteers, and organisers are always looking for extra hands, both in the lead-up and on the day itself. If you would like to get involved, contact the team via the Glastonbury Dragons Facebook page.

The Dragons need a home

The Glastonbury Dragons still need a permanent storage space. Organisers are appealing for local businesses or families who could store the Dragons over the winter to keep them dry and protected from the elements.

They need to be kept in or around Glastonbury, and due to their size, they won't fit through standard doorways—the heads need to be stored on ladders to keep them off the ground.

The Glastonbury Dragons rely on donations to fund their twice-yearly events, covering costs but leaving little for storage. Ideally, they need a long-term space for the Dragons, their maintenance equipment, and Gwyn's throne/chariot, but the immediate priority is securing dry winter storage.

If you can help, please contact the team via their Facebook page—where you can also follow updates, see photos from past events, and support the Glastonbury Dragons.
