Glastonbury darts star Justin Hood has revealed his marriage proposal did not exactly go to plan — after he dropped to one knee completely naked, burst into tears and threw the ring at his partner.

The 32-year-old, who has won fans with his big personality on the PDC circuit, said he seized the moment after an engagement ring was delivered to the house while he had just stepped out of the shower.

But instead of the tearful reaction he had hoped for, Hood said his now-wife Jessica gave a far more muted response — and that was enough to send the Somerset player into meltdown.

Speaking about the moment, Hood said he went in "completely starkers" and proposed on the spot after the parcel arrived.

He said: "She didn't cry and then I started crying because she didn't cry. It made me mad so then I just chucked the ring at her and walked out. I was like just marry yourself."

Hood, nicknamed Happy Feet, said Jessica had unknowingly taken delivery of the ring herself before handing the package to him.

He said: "Obviously she didn't know what it was. She gave the package to me and I had just got out of the shower completely starkers. I went in there, got down on one knee, everything.

"She was like, 'Oh yeah', I was like if you are going to be like that, marry yourself."

The Glastonbury player said there was "no towel" involved either, adding that he prefers to "go with the flow" while Jessica likes to plan things properly.

Hood's unusual proposal story comes after a breakthrough few months on the oche. The world No. 51 made a huge impression at the World Championship, reaching the quarter-finals on his debut run at Alexandra Palace.
