A fundraising appeal has been launched to help a Glastonbury family get back on their feet after a serious house fire destroyed everything they own. The GoFundMe appeal follows the blaze in Compton Close on Wednesday, 8 July, which left a home badly damaged.

The page, titled Helping to get a family back on their feet, says the family are safe but will need help and support over the coming months. At the time the appeal details were shared, 82 donors had already contributed.

The appeal says: "Hoping a community can get this family back on their feet after the devastating house fire that's destroyed everything they own. Thankfully the family are safe but will no doubt need a lot of help and support over the coming months. Please help if you can. Thank you."

Multiple fire crews were called to Compton Close after emergency calls reported the blaze. Firefighters arrived to find smoke and flames coming from a semi-detached property, with crews from Glastonbury, Street, Wells, Somerton, Cheddar, Yeovil and Honiton among those attending.

An aerial ladder platform was also used as firefighters worked to bring the fire under control. Hoses were stretched across the residential road as crews tackled the blaze, with images from the scene showing extensive damage to the roof and first floor of the home.

Firefighters used breathing apparatus, three hose reel jets, four main jets, two triple extension ladders and two thermal imaging cameras during the incident. Avon Fire & Rescue Service said the property sustained around 75 per cent fire damage and was 100 per cent affected by water damage.

The cause of the fire has been confirmed as accidental. The incident was later left in the hands of the police.

The GoFundMe appeal has been set up to support the family as they begin to recover from the fire and replace what has been lost.
