One of Glastonbury's best-known food businesses has picked up two national awards.
Knight's Fish Restaurant, in Northload Street, has been named Quality Accreditation Champion at the National Fish & Chip Awards 2026 and Most Historic Fish & Chip Shop at the English Fish & Chip Awards.
The business, which was founded in 1909, was recognised by the National Federation of Fish Friers at the National Fish & Chip Awards.
After the win, Knight's said: "Winning the NFFF Quality Accreditation Champion award is an incredibly proud moment for everyone at Knights. This recognition reflects our long-standing commitment to continually bettering ourselves and raising standards.
"We have been part of formal quality assessment schemes for decades – from the early Seafish programme through to being involved from the very beginning of the NFFF Quality Accreditation scheme – and that consistent engagement has helped shape the way we operate today.
"The honest, expert feedback – whether identifying refinements or highlighting oversights in today's fast-moving legislative world – enables us to strengthen, adapt and future-proof our business. Learn, improvise, adapt and overcome.
"The NFFF has long been a cornerstone of our business, and this win cements that relationship. But we are not finished – not even close.
"Longevity comes from humility, from listening, and from a relentless commitment to improve. We are proud and thankful today, but tomorrow we keep learning."
Knight's has also been recognised at the English Fish & Chip Awards, where it was named Most Historic Fish & Chip Shop. The award adds another national title for the Glastonbury business, which has been serving the town for more than a century.
The English Fish & Chip Awards said: "Huge congratulations to Knights Fish Restaurant (Somerset) for their incredible achievement in winning Most Historic Fish & Chip Shop at the English Fish & Chip Awards.
"This well-deserved recognition celebrates excellence, quality, and dedication to serving some of the finest fish and chips. A fantastic accomplishment for the entire team!"
Other winners at the National Fish & Chip Awards included The Scrap Box, in York, which was named Takeaway of the Year, and Trenchers of Whitby, in Yorkshire, which was named Restaurant of the Year.
Andrew Crook, president of the National Federation of Fish Friers, said: "What a year it has been for the National Fish & Chip Awards. We don't make it easy to progress through the assessments as benchmarks are always set extremely high.
"This ensures shortlisted businesses and individuals truly know about serving superb quality meals for customers and they are contributing to the growth of sector by innovating where possible, investing in their operations and people, and being exceptional advocates for the trade.
"It's been clear from the start that those competing came with serious agendas to elevate industry best practice like never before and we are so proud to say these are the winners. Fish and chip businesses are the backbone of the takeaway space; the heritage is like no other and our winners represent tradition and the future to the highest degree."
Seafood from Norway's Bjørn-Erik Stabell, UK country director for the Norwegian Seafood Council, said: "On behalf of the Norwegian seafood industry, we want to congratulate this year's winners who have been crowned as the best in the business – you are truly remarkable.
"The commitment to quality across the industry continues to astound us year on year, and it's this shared commitment that gets us excited about the future of fish and chips."
