As the Glastonbury Chilkwell Carnival fast approaches, set to dazzle on 18th November at 6:45 pm, the call is going out for volunteers and fundraisers to join the community spectacle that has become a fixture on the annual calendar.

Organisers are offering unique opportunities for local charities, not-for-profit organisations, and community groups to fundraise during the event.

A wide array of roles are available for interested volunteers, ranging from car park attendants and marshals to crowd control and road closure support. According to Donna Willcox, the point of contact for fundraising opportunities, people need to engage in coin collecting, contactless donations, and programme sales. Further opportunities extend to paint & merchandise sales as well as car and coach parking coordination. Those keen on joining the effort can reach out to Donna at [email protected].

In a statement, Stuart Talbott, chief marshal at the Carnival, said, "Carnival only happens because of volunteers, and Glastonbury Chilkwell Carnival is looking for your help. There are a number of roles we need volunteers to fill." Anyone looking to sign up or register their interest in volunteering can get in touch with Stuart at [email protected].

In a departure from previous years, this year's carnival will not feature a pre-procession, focusing solely on the main event. But what it lacks in a pre-show, it more than makes up for in community spirit and collaborative efforts.

The Glastonbury Chilkwell Carnival has long been a major event on the local calendar, bringing people together for a night of entertainment, spectacle, and community togetherness. So mark your calendars and consider dedicating a bit of your time to ensure that this beloved local event continues to be the success it has been for years. Whether you're part of a local charity looking to boost your coffers or an individual keen to give back to the community, Glastonbury Chilkwell Carnival has a role for you.
