A Glastonbury café could soon have additional tables and chairs outside in Market Place if Somerset Council approves a new pavement licence. Heaphys in the Market Place, has applied for fresh permission to use part of the pavement outside the café between 8 am and 8 pm every day.

The application is now out for consultation, giving residents and nearby businesses until Friday, 31 July to have their say. The proposed seating area would include 16 tables, seven parasols and barriers outside the café.

The plan submitted to the council says a 1.75-metre pedestrian route would remain past the premises. It also states that tables and chairs would be kept at least 2.5 metres from the road.

Heaphys sits on one of Glastonbury's most familiar town-centre stretches, where cafés and shops share space with shoppers, visitors and passing traffic. Pavement licences allow hospitality businesses to place furniture outside, but councils must consider how the space would work for pedestrians and other users.

Anyone wishing to comment on the proposal must make representations to Somerset Council before the consultation closes on Friday, 31 July.
