Glastonbury Brass have secured a place at the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain after taking third place at the West of England Regional Championships.

The band competed in the First Section contest at the Riviera International Centre in Torquay, going up against 17 other bands from across the region. Each group performed the set piece Introduction, Elegy and Caprice by Morley Calvert.

Preparations for the competition began in January under the band's new musical director, Liam Grunsell, former Bandmaster of the Grenadier Guards.

Mr Grunsell said: "I am absolutely thrilled with the result! The dedication and hard work from every member of the Band has truly paid off, and I couldn't be prouder of what we've achieved. This is a fantastic milestone and I am excited to build on this success during preparations for Cheltenham as we represent the West of England at the national level."

More than 70 bands competed across all sections at this year's West of England Championships, which marked its 25th year in Torquay. Regional qualifiers from across the UK will now go on to represent their areas in the national finals in September.

Glastonbury Brass will next perform at their Spring Concert at St Benedict's Church on Sunday 13 April.

The band rehearse on Tuesday and Sunday evenings at Glastonbury Football Club. Anyone interested in finding out more can email [email protected] or visit glastonburybrass.webnode.page.
