Following its most successful year in the 2023 Royal Horticultural Society's (RHS) 'South West in Bloom' competition, Glastonbury has been officially selected as a national finalist for the RHS 'Britain in Bloom' Competition for 2024.

Last year, Glastonbury's floral displays, which adorned the town from May through October, clinched several top awards, including the Preece Cup for the town's population category, the Abbiss Cup for the best Horticultural Display on a Municipal building (Glastonbury Town Hall), and the Sargent Trophy for outstanding effort and contribution from a main competition entry.

In the upcoming RHS 'Britain in Bloom' contest, Glastonbury will compete against notable towns such as Todmorden (Yorkshire), Upton (South), Ainsdale (North West), and Forres (Scotland) in the 'town' category.

The competition will assess Glastonbury's dedication to enhancing the local environment, community engagement, and horticultural excellence.

The 2024 colour scheme will mirror the Town Council crest, featuring blues, golds, yellows, whites, and silvers, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the current Town Council's formation.

Additionally, this year's entry will pay tribute to the late Alan Gloak MBE, the pioneering spirit behind "Glastonbury in Bloom," who sadly passed away on 29 December 2023.

As Britain in Bloom celebrates its 60th anniversary, the theme of friendship has been chosen to underscore the power of community gardening in bringing people together and enhancing lives. The Glastonbury in Bloom initiative is a testament to this ethos, fostering a sense of unity and pride within the community.

Glastonbury in Bloom is calling for volunteers to assist with the preparation and upkeep of the town's award-winning floral displays. Those interested in contributing their time and energy to this vibrant community project are encouraged to contact the Glastonbury in Bloom Committee Clerk, Sarah Marks, via email at [email protected] or by phone at 01458 831 769.
