Glastonbury and Street residents urged to register to vote for upcoming PCC elections

With the Avon and Somerset Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) election on the horizon, residents of Glastonbury and Street are reminded of the vital deadline to register to vote.

The PCC plays a key role in overseeing local police operations, ensuring they align with community needs. This election encompasses regions across Bath & North East Somerset Council, Bristol City Council, North Somerset Council, Somerset Council, and South Gloucestershire Council.

Important Dates for Voter Registration:

The closing date for voter registration is midnight, Tuesday, 16 April. Local authorities in Glastonbury and Street encourage residents to verify their registration, especially those new to the area, to secure their right to vote. Registration is quick and straightforward online at www.gov.uk/registertovote. The postal vote application deadline is set for 5pm, Wednesday, 17 April.

Navigating Voter ID Requirements:

For the first time, photo ID will be necessary for those voting in person. Residents lacking appropriate ID can apply for a Voter Authority Certificate until 5pm on Wednesday, 24 April. Various voting methods are available: in person, by post, or by proxy, with the proxy vote application also closing on Wednesday, 24 April.

Will Godfrey, the Police Area Returning Officer, stressed the elections' significance: "This is a pivotal moment for residents of Glastonbury and Street to influence local policing priorities. Ensure you're registered by the 16 April deadline to participate."
