We're set for an event-packed weekend, with the area offering a range of activities that cater to various interests—from community-driven projects and musical evenings to engaging cinema experiences.
Here's what's on the agenda for locals and visitors in Glastonbury and Street this weekend:
Kick off the weekend with a bit of competitive spirit at the Merriman Park Fun Quiz on Friday, 17th May, at the Victoria Club on Leigh Road in nearby Street. This charity quiz night aims to raise funds for Merriman Park. Gather your team of up to six people, with entry at £5 per person. Make sure to book in advance by contacting Mike Linham at (01458) 442725 or via email at [email protected]. It's a perfect evening for those who love trivia and community spirit!
On Saturday, 18th May, from 10 am to 12 noon, head over to St. Benedict's Church on Benedict's Street for the Glastonbury Repair Café. This initiative encourages repairing over throwing away, with experts on hand to help fix a variety of household items. While you're waiting, enjoy some homemade cake and a cup of tea in the beautiful surroundings of the church. This event runs on donations, with proceeds going towards local community projects.
Strode Theatre in Street offers a cinematic weekend with a variety of screenings. Catch the classic 'The Lavender Hill Mob' (4K Re-Release) on Saturday, 18th May, and the musical spectacle '42nd Street' (PG) on Sunday, 19th May. For those looking for contemporary drama, 'Red Island' (12A) is showing on Sunday as well. It's a perfect way to relax and dive into different worlds through the silver screen. For more information and to book tickets, visit the Strode Theatre website.
And don't forget - it's not long until the return of the Royal Bath & West Show, scheduled from 30th May to 1st June.
This event promises to balance traditional attractions with new innovations. Regular favourites such as the Pony Club Games, Heavy Horses, and Showjumping will take place alongside the thrilling Jamie Squibb Freestyle Motorbike Stunt Show.
The Horticulture Village is set to impress again this year, featuring the Pop-Up Gardens Competition with a focus on sensory awareness and sustainable living.
The food and drink scene will be highlighted by The Great British Kitchen, featuring demonstrations from renowned chefs like Clodagh McKenna and Rosemary Shrager, and an opening day appearance by Rachel Khoo.
New to the show for 2024 is the 'Bark & West', dedicated to pet lovers, featuring agility rings and displays. The show will also host special appearances, including Love Island's Farmer Will and a performance from The Wurzels, ensuring that the Royal Bath & West Show remains a must-visit for families looking for a fun and educational day out.

Glastonbury and the surrounding areas are buzzing with activities this weekend, providing ample opportunities to engage with the community, enjoy live music, or unwind at the cinema.
