As the sun shines brighter (well, hopefully) and the flowers bloom, Glastonbury and Street are gearing up for a weekend filled with cultural, musical, and mystical events.

Here's what's happening :

On Friday, 24th May, you'll find the Cecil Sharp Anniversary Concert at Theale Village Hall near Wedmore. This concert celebrates Cecil Sharp's invaluable contribution to collecting traditional English songs and tunes. With live performances by seven Somerset musicians and a historical slideshow, this event promises a heartfelt homage to folk music. Tickets are available at a limited capacity, and all proceeds go towards the renovation of Theale Village Hall. For more information, check the event here.

Also on Friday, the Glastonbury Pagan Moot presents "The Mystical Mind: Introducing the Neuro-Gnostic Model" by Sef Salem at Beckets Inn. This talk will explore the integration of neurological sciences and mystical practices, providing insights into modern magical operations. It's an event for those curious about the esoteric and the occult, offering deep dives into magical theories and practices. More details can be found here.

Delve into the world of cinema at Strode Theatre in Street with screenings of "Jeanne du Barry" and "Fantastic Machine," showing from Friday, 24th May, through Thursday, 30th May. These films provide a mix of historical intrigue and modern-day technological exploration. For booking information, call the box office at 01458 442846 or visit their website for more details.

This Saturday, 25th May, from 10:00 am to 4:30 pm, the Assembly Rooms of Glastonbury will transform into a hive of creativity for The Big Spring Creative Market. Local artisans, crafters, and holistic traders will display their talents, offering everything from handmade jewellery to unique home decorations and spiritual healing services. It's a perfect opportunity to find that special gift or just enjoy the community's creative pulse.

Later that evening, from 9:00 pm to 11:00 pm, the musical duo Bowie & A Little Bush will take the stage at Rifleman's Arms. Fodo Higginson and Nick Walkling will enchant the audience with their renditions of David Bowie and Kate Bush songs, spanning all eras of these iconic musicians' careers. Expect an evening of nostalgic tunes and captivating performances.

Musical vibes continue into the evening with the Backdoor Blues Jam at the Queen of Cups from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, followed by an acoustic set by The Bluetones at the Red Brick Building from 7:00 pm to 11:30 pm. The Bluetones will offer a rare opportunity to hear their classics in an intimate setting, providing a perfect close to a musically charged day.

For those looking for a transformative experience, the weekend workshop "Radically Embodying Goddess in the World" takes place on Saturday, 25th May, and Sunday, 26th May. Hosted by Lynne Sedgmore and Kay Aldred, this event invites participants to explore what it means to live as a fully embodied sacred woman in today's complex world. The workshop includes insights, practices, and tools to foster mindful embodiment and powerful engagement with life's many facets.

Immortal Onion x Michal Jan - Jazz Fusion Performance Rounding out the musical offerings, The Red Hot Jazz Club at the Red Brick Building presents Immortal Onion x Michal Jan on Saturday, 25th May. This event showcases a dynamic blend of jazz, electronic music, and more, delivered by some of Poland's finest musicians.
