Glastonbury Abbey has been shortlisted as a finalist in the Bristol, Bath & Somerset Tourism awards, a platform that recognises excellence in the local tourism industry.

In a separate accolade, the abbey also received a gold award in the South West in Bloom Business, Leisure and Tourism category.

The Glastonbury Abbey Medieval Fayre, which took place in April 2023, has been shortlisted for Event of the Year, following its third finalist designation. The event reported more than 8,000 attendees and featured a range of activities from medieval living history displays to market stalls and jousts.

Alongside its event recognition, the abbey's grounds and gardens were given a gold award by South West in Bloom. This award acknowledges the contributions of staff and volunteers in maintaining the 36-acre estate, which includes an orchard and medieval herb and kitchen gardens.

Brad Lister, Head of Commercial Activity at Glastonbury Abbey, stated: "The Bristol, Bath & Somerset Tourism Awards recognise & promote excellence across the local tourism industry and we are thrilled to once again be a finalist in the Event of the Year category. The events programme at Glastonbury Abbey attracts in excess of 30,000 additional visitors to Glastonbury each year and awards such as these are a great help in spreading the message of quality and enjoyment the events offer. To also win GOLD at the South West in Bloom awards is a great result for the entire abbey team and thanks must also go to the Town Council team for their support with the 'In Bloom' entry and judging visits."

The Medieval Fayre is slated to return on 27th and 28th April 2024, with the promise of more stalls and activities. Discounted advance tickets are currently available on the abbey's website.

The winners of the Bristol, Bath & Somerset Tourism Awards will be declared at the 2023 Awards Ceremony at the Bristol Hotel on 30th November.
